Question d'origine :
Bonjour, j'aurais aimé dans un premier temps, avoir des informations sur un philosophe andalou du nom Ibn Sab'în qui vécu au 13ème siècle, et dans un deuxième temps, avoir des informations sur les relations(échange philosophique) qu'ont entretenu des philosophes arabes comme lui (en andalousie, Syrie, Egypte...) avec des souverains occidentaux comme Frederic 2, toujours au 13ème siècle.
Merci de m'indiquer les titres de livres en rapport avec ce sujet.
N.B : pour cibler votre recherche, je peux déja vous indiquer le nom de 2 ouvrages qui aurait été en rapport avec le sujet mais qui ne m'intéresse pas :La philosophie médiévale de Alain de Libéra et La philosophie médiévale arabe et latine de Jean Jolivet.

IBN SAB'IN (1217-1269) tenant de la falsafa et soufi originaire de l'Andalus, fut toute sa vie en butte à de violentes attaques venues des milieux juristes.
Né à Murcie où il avait acquis une profonde culture marquée d'ésotérisme, Ibn Sab'ïn dut bientôt quitter cette ville en raison de ses positions doctrinales et des accusations qu'elles soulevaient, lorsqu'il eut notamment déclaré que Dieu était la seule réalité des choses existantes. Il s'expatria d'abord au Maghreb avec ses disciples et se rendit à Ceuta. Là, sa réputation était si grande que le gouverneur almohade l'invita à répondre aux questions philosophiques posées par l'empereur Frédéric II au souverain Abdelwadide al-Rashîd. Mais à la suite de nouvelles difficultés causées par son enseignement, il n'en fut pas moins obligé de s'expatrier plus loin et il prit le chemin de l'Orient par Bougie, Tunis, puis Le Caire en se heurtant partout à l'hostilité des oulémas pour finir par s'établir dans le territoire protégé du Haram à la Mekke où il se serait néanmoins suicidé.
Aristotélicien convaincu et mystique d'une grande élévation de pensée, qui cependant se refusait à concilier son hellénisme avec la doctrine de l'islam et qui est rangé par Ibn Khaldoun parmi les adeptes du monisme, Ibn Sab'ïn resta toute sa vie exposé à des soupçons et condamnations l'isolant de ses contemporains. Il eut toutefois un disciple en la personne du soufi al-Shushtari (1213-1269). (cf. Janine et Dominique Sourdel, Dictionnaire historique de l'Islam, PUF, 2004.)

Les biographies de Frédéric II de Hohenstaufen, notamment celle de Ernst Kantorowicz, Gallimard, 1987, pp. 321-323 donnent des détails sur les relations de cet empereur avec l'Espagne.
Les sites Internet sur ce personnage sont plutôt décevants.
Je n'ai pas trouvé pour l'instant d'ouvrage concernant les relations de philosophes arabes avec des souverains occidentaux, mais si j'en trouve je vous le signalerai.

Nous commencerons la présentation de ce philosophe du XIIIe siècle andalou par le tout début de l’article qui lui est consacré dans L’encyclopédie philosophique universelle Tome 3 : Les œuvres philosophiques
IBN SAB’IN (1218-1270)
Muhammad b. ‘Abd al-Haqq Abû Muhammad Qutb al-Dîn al Sab’în naquit à Murcie en 614 H./1218 ; il mourut à La Mecque en 669 H./1270. A la fois soufi proche de la mystique de l’Ishrâq (doctrine de l’illumination) et philosophe péripatéticien, il fut toute sa vie exposé aux persécutions. Il fit ses études en Espagne et acquit une vaste culture dans les sciences religieuses, la médecine et l’alchimie. Suspect de panthéisme, il s’expatrie avec quelques disciples et se fixe à Ceuta où sa notoriété incite le gouverneur de la ville à le charger de répondre aux questions philosophiques de l’empereur Frédéric II de Hohenstaufen avait adressées au sultan almohade ‘Abd al-Wâhid al-Rashîd. Mais il dut encore s’exiler et partir pour l’orient. En route, il se lia d’amitié à Bougie avec le le grand poète al-Shushtarî qui l’appelait « l’aimant des âmes ». A Tunis, il fut en butte à l’hostilité des théologiens ; au Caire, il trouva le sultan Baybars Ier mal disposé à son égard et il chercha refuge à La Mecque où il fut encore attaqué. C’est là que, dit-on, il mit fin à ses jours « par désir de s’unir à Dieu ».

L’article de l’Encyclopédie de l’islam, tome 3 note que les biographes d’Ibn Sab’în « lui attribuent un certain nombre d’ouvrages dont les principaux sont : Budd al-‘arif, qu’il aurait composé à l’âge de 15 ans, al-Duradj, al-Ihata, al-Fath al-mushtarak, un petit livre, al-Fakiriyya, plusieurs traités et quelques dissertations ».
La bibliographie de cet article de l’Encyclopédie de l’islam indique l’étude de M.A..F. Mehren : Correspondance du philosophe soufi ibn Sab’in Abd oul-Hagq avec l’empereur Frédéric II de Hohenstaufen, in Journal asiatique, VII, 14, pp. 341 et suivantes (Journal asiatique, BM Lyon, coll. Des Fontaines, cote Z 446) .
Revenons à l’article de l’Encyclopédie philosophique universelle, « Cette correspondance avec l’empereur Frédéric II répond à des questions sur la création du monde, sur les principes et la nature de la théologie, sur les catégories, la logique et la théorie de la connaissance, enfin sur l’âme et les divergences entre Aristote et Alexandre d’Aphrodise (...) Par exemple, sur l’éternité du monde, Ibn Sab’în explique en quoi l’argumentation d’Aristote doit être corrigée : l’éternité par essence est ce qui n’a aucune cause à son existence. C’est en quoi Dieu est éternel. Et quand on considère d’une part sa grandeur et sa sainteté avec les yeux des soufis, et d’autre part le monde et ses déficiences, on comprend avec une totale certitude que le monde ne peut pas être éternel comme Dieu. Cet exemple montre comment, pour Ibn Sab’în, la pensée mystique peut corriger les doctrines philosophiques erronées. »
Pour en finir avec cette présentation succincte de ce philosophe, consultons l’article qui lui est consacré dans le Dictionnaire du Moyen-Age : littérature et philosophie de l’Encyclopaedia Universalis. On y apprend, notamment, qu’ "On a attribué à Ibn Sab’în un livre sur la signification symbolique des lettres : lui-même dit que les mystérieuses lettres qui sont au début de certaines sourates constituent la clé de la compréhension du livre. On peut en inférer que le néo-platonisme d’Ibn Sab’în l’avait orienté vers une gnose de type shi’ite, et même vers les sciences occultes. "
