bonjour,
je suis en train de faire un travail de transcriptions de manuscrits plus ou moins anciens concernant le Rhone et ses iles. Le manuscrit qui suscite ma question date de la moitie ou de la fin du 19e siecle et parle des directions dans lesquelles le Rhone coule ou a coule. Or l'auteur a note ces directions par des glyphes ou si vous preferez des signes que je ne connais pas et dont je ne parviens pas deviner le sens.
Je suppose que ce qui est note est donc les 4 points cardinaux et toutes les possibilites habituelles: nord nord est, sud ouest etc.
Seulement voila ces glyphes ressemblent plutot a des lettres majuscules suivies de lettres minuscules placees en exposant, en haut a droite de la mujuscule. Voila a quoi ca ressemble, je cite:
"il (le Rhone) arrivait a ce point tantot par le cote Ao D Ae et tantot par le cote Cc Ad Ae .........Mais en 1409 il coulait au midi des dites iles, dans la direction Ae Af (ou bien At)"
Est ce que quelqu'un connait ces signes et sinon de quel cote devrais-je chercher pour avoir une reponse.
Je suis en Ontario et la bibliotheque francaise n'est pas volumineuse, et je ne sais pas ou chercher sur internet

L’utilisation des glyphes ou signes destinés à indiquer le sens de circulation des eaux dans votre manuscrit sur le Rhône et ses îles nous a laissés perplexes. En effet, nous n’avons à la bibliothèque municipale de Lyon aucun plan avec ce type de glyphes, et les archives municipales de Lyon et les archives départementales du Rhône que nous avons contactées ne les connaissent pas davantage.
Le Département des cartes et plans de la Bibliothèque Nationale de France à Paris ne connaît pas ce genre de codage qui généralement fait plutôt référence à un texte d’accompagnement qui est joint à la carte ou aux cartes, mais il a accepté de faire une recherche à ce sujet. Nous vous informerons des résultats.

Le Département des Cartes et plans de la Bibliothèque Nationale de France nous indique qu'aucun des conservateurs ne connait ce système de glyphes. Il est vrai qu'il est très difficile de faire des recherches sans avoir vu le document.
La BNF vous suggère de vous adresser au forum de discussion du site américain Maphistory : www. maphistory.info en joignant si possible une reproduction scannée de ces signes.
